We follow sustainable and natural farming practices. The use of cover crops, crop rotations, compost and organic fertilizers all help to promote healthy soils. Healthier soils in turn produce healthy plants for better tasting and longer lasting food. Most of our products are raised herbicide and pesticide free and are picked at the peak of flavor.
The farm grows crops in traditional outdoor fields during normal growing seasons and also in high tunnel greenhouses.
High tunnels greenhouses, are unheated greenhouses that are passively vented using roll-up sidewalls an end walls. Although heat is not require to grow, heat can be utilized on colder nights or to further extend the season.
The use of row covers within the high tunnels provides additional protection from colder temperatures. These are just some of the ways that crops can be grown into the winter months and beyond.
Our website will assist you in understanding why the small family farm and knowing where you food comes from is so important to you and your family. The Red Basket Farm sells the produce it produces at local farmers markets as well as through a program called "FarmtoHome" that is open to the public on a subscription basis.
